Asobi ni Iku Yo! – first impressions

“They’re huge!” Yes, yes they are…

Power Ranger Black to the rescue!

For your typical fanservice harem series, Asobi actually has a decent plot. Alien catgirl Eris lands on earth “to have fun” (what else >___>) and ends up being the target of terrorists, government agencies and whatnot. Lucky guy Kakazu gets the onerous responsibility of looking after Eris and her man-magnets, and at the same time, is target to a couple of femme fatales himself.

Mmm melons...

Chances are, if you’re already into these ecchi series that are packed to the brim with bewbs, you’re probably gonna end up watching this series anyway. Not that that’s a terribly bad thing: this series has some pretty decent animation (though it has some really stupid flaws, like the lack of blood).

Mmm pears...

As I said before, the plot is actually rather engaging too, and I was almost hooked by the end of the episode. Aoi’s character is particularly interesting, voiced expertly by Hanazawa Kana.

Futaba ❤

There are some pretty damn annoying points though. I mean, who freakin’ gets wasted after one sip of alcohol. Other really irritating moments included Hitokasu-sensei’s ridiculous lack of subtlety. Seriously, how the hell did she keep their cover all this time. It’s also never satisfactorily explained why Eris stays with Kakazu. I should really start to assume that these series skip over such ‘minor’ details and shove in bewbs to shut the thinkers up.

Weird alien sprite thing

If you’re enjoying this show, ignore everything I’ve just said, because what watching anime boils down to is essentially entertainment and amusement. Whatever floats your boat. However, if you seek a little more credibility, style and even humour, you might not want to end up on this alley.

ED: *yawn*

I actually enjoyed this series more than I thought I would when I initially read the synopsis. It really helps that it has an actual plot.

I am reminded too much of Ookami Kakushi… Dammit AIC, why do you have to destroy nearly everything you touch…? Male (faggot) harem lead surrounded by (and afraid of) several beautiful women, and he takes 0 initiative to end up with either. Essentially the tl;dr of most AIC works. Oh well, not the worst thing I’ve seen all season.
