Darker Than Black Gaiden – 03

“We’re humans that couldn’t be dolls. Basically, we’re defects.”

The mouse returns

Three quarters of the way there, and we’re left with quite a cliffhanger, even though we know part of what to expect. We had, in my opinion, a relatively calmer episode, which will hopefully lead to a more climactic finale.

Can you keep a secret?

The chemistry between Hei and Yin has been greatly emphasised in the Gaiden OVAs and by the end of this episode, we see it about to be put to the test, with Yin going half batshit crazy and killing the remaining EPR members. I like how they’ve created the relationship. It’s pretty subtle and gently paced.

I would’ve liked to see some more development on the dog contractor, but alas, the bitch dies. I also felt that the way EPR met its demise was also a little sudden and somewhat unwarranted. I mean, what the hell did Amagiri ever do >_>. However it did add some very emotional substance to the episode. It also just added to how unforgiving the Darker Than Black universe is. People die, and they die quickly.

She dead.

I am enjoying the variety in this OVA series very muchly. Every episode is different, and the usually dominant and in-control Hei is essentially left on his knees by the third episode. It all goes to show that the DTB series is FAR from finished, and still has plenty of potential to work on.

"What the hell is a prostitute doing in my room?!"

I found this to be quite an interesting episode, though yin could have been more appropriately dressed. I mean she’s a doll! >.> I guess this ep explains why EPR just disappear from the face of the world.
