LittleBig Planet 2 – debut trailer impressions

“You took a game of 50 levels & did more than we could ever imagine. So we can’t wait to see what you do with this!”

Break it down, Sackboy~ XD

And so PS3-owners will get a sequel to one of the most creative and original games on the market, LittleBig Planet. What’s also a plus is the fact that all levels created in LBP1 will be seamlessly playable in the sequel. If that’s the case, some of you may wonder if this eagerly awaited sequel will be worth the money…

The answer isn’t quite so clear-cut. As clearly put forward by the debut trailer, LBP2 will no longer be just the platforming game LBP1 was: it’ll be a “platform for gaming”. Unless a zombie’s eaten your brains, it doesn’t much intelligence that a heckload of time and thought has been spent on improving the level creating component of the game.

Follow the leader!

Now players will be able to give life to NPC’s with the sackbot feature. This adds a surprising and shocking amount of depth to creating levels, as now you’ll be able to create friends, whose actions can be controlled using the SIXAXIS controller, or foes.

March of the sackbots.

There’ll also be a new camera system. This means that now cutscenes (yes, I did say CUTSCENES) will be able to be recorded by budding sackboy directors. For those even more dedicated, you can voice-record parts, and the camera can be moved, tilted and shaked to change atmosphere. I honestly cannot wait to see what LBP freaks out there come out with.

The graphics have also been given an extra boost. There will be improved glass effects, and lighting has been influenced by games like God of War III and Uncharted. From what we’ve seen from the debut trailer, LBP2 looks even more imaginative and detailed than its predecessor. Add that to 75 new costumes and dozens of new stickers, and we have quite the winner. Keep up the good work Media Molecule~

More stickers than you can find in at preschool and primary school combined.

Mm is aiming to release LBP2 at the end of the year. I can’t wait for new footage to be released concerning stuff like the new gameplay additions (we already know the grappling hook will be present). LBP2 better make an appearance at E3…

I was surprised that they could do more with the genre. Having seen the trailer I’m quite amazed at what they’ve thought of. Looks game of the year material!
