Angel Beats! – impressions so far

“How did you like the feeling of being an astronaut?”

He just discovered he had breast cancer.

While the comedy remains one of the more consistent points in this unusual series of sorts, the drama and sense of plot has had its highs and lows.

Head + Crotch = not good

I personally enjoyed the humour in episode 5. The use of “The Brave Song” from the ED definitely added to the comic sequences and was expertly timed. Otonashi was also pretty funny in his own right, especially when he has to explain Yuri’s fury to Tenshi aka Tachibana Kanade. The sound-effects were also nicely done.

I wish i had abs of steel like that...

However what it spent building up in episode 3 regarding Yuri’s leardership was pretty much undercut left, right and centre. The SSS are no more than a bunch of hooligans who make trouble, and Yuri’s no more than a bully, who has never really considered Tenshi’s reasons and actions. On the plus side, we did learn more about Tenshi, and we’ve come to cheer for her a lot more.

Rocket chairs. We need more at school.

Episode 4 was a mixed bag of repetitive humour and powerful drama. I never liked Yui as a character, and I think I never will. She’s just annoying. What was really striking was that pivotal moment in the baseball game which made hearts stop beating for a second or two. Good job. Episode 5 also had an emotional moment when Tenshi’s meal ticket is cruelly taken away from her by Operation Tornado.

Whodunnit?

Let’s hope we get some solid development from now on.

Yuri trying to be Asian (lol don't crucify me readers! I'm Asian too!)

I laughed at the last picture, at the sheer irony.

Yeah, it’s probably one of the BEST anime this season, in my opinion anyway.

I was rooting for Tenshi since episode 1 and glad it developed this way. Yurippe and co. do really seem somewhat like bullies now, but it’s probably more that they just don’t want to accept their current situation.
