Super Mario Galaxy 2 – trailer impressions

It’sa me! Yoshi!

Fly Mario, fly!

Nintendo - giving otherwise forgetable characters another chance at life.

Sūpā Mario Gyarakushī Tsū, or more simply, Super Mario Galaxy 2, will be the sequel to one of the best Wii games out there. As a result, it’s received a heck of a lot of attention. But is it deserved?

A little too much chilli in your curry?

To start off with, it’s a shame that Koizumi and Miyamoto have decided to stick with the same graphics… though that’s not entirely a bad thing. The first SMG (LOL!) was a technical and graphical achievement for the Wii, and SMG2 is guaranteed to look amazing.

You can't see me if I can't see you!

According to Miyamoto, SMG2 will have less emphasis on story than its predecessor. This is actually quite funny, because SMG1, like most other Mario games, had an extremely oversimplified plot. It just makes me wonder why they didn’t just make SMG2 into a series of downloadable content…

Mario borrowed this from Link~

However what SMG2 will lack in plot, it will apparantly make up in gameplay. From what we’ve seen, there will be a lot more mind-bending gravity and dizzying leaps. Reggie Fils-Aimé also noted that it will be very challenging, which will be great for those acquainted with the franchise.

And you thought your workplace sucked.

What will be interesting to see is Yoshi’s inclusion in SMG2. Will his addition be fun to play with, or is this another sales gimmic? Only time can tell, but it’s pretty funny seeing the effects of eating certain fruit/items on Yoshi.

Once again, Luigi is forgotten.

SMG2 looks just as good as SMG and it’s great to know that there will be some cool material for those who’ve played the original. While it’s a shame that not too many things have been added to the sequel (apart from the ‘huge’ addition of Yoshi), SMG2 is guaranteed to be just as awesome as its predecessor.

This got panned badly by Yahtzee and I think I’m going to end up agreeing with him…but maybe that’s just because I lack the skills required for console games.
