Kratos's ever so useful Blades of Athena

Mr Happy and his sharp and pointy ‘friends’  return in the epic next intallment of the God of War franchise! So what’s happened so far…? In short after being tricked into killing his family, Kratos, an ex-Spartan general goes on a murderous, testosterone-filled rampage to kill those responsible. After killing Ares, he becomes the next god of war and the rest is history. Because Zeus betrayed him in GoW II and actually LIVED to tell the tale, GoW III will focus on Kratos’s quest to pretty much destroy ALL of Olympus, gods and monstrosities alike.

The usual gore content is still there~

Let’s start off with visuals. GoW III looks simply amazing. As usual the flame effects are pretty to watch, but what really captures your attention are the improved lighting and shadow features. While the whole premise isn’t realistic per se, the way dark caves are illuminated is very. It’s also cool how if you leave a dark place for a brightly lit one, just as the human retina needs to readjust, so will Kratos’s, adding to the already excellent realistic lighting effects.

Beat that, Link.

Sound has always been a strong point in the God of War franchise, and will definitely be in its conclusion. The orchestrated scores work well, and like in the previous GoW games, will help to create atmosphere and highten action and tension.

It pays to get ahead!

We can expect gameplay to be similar to the console GoW games. 4 weapons have been confirmed thus far: the Zipper (fire bow and arrows), the trademark Blades of Athena, the Blade of Olympus and the Cestus, a pair of lion-head gauntlets that can smash through stuff. The Golden Fleece and Icarus’ Wings are set to reappear in GoW III as well. Apparantly a lot more enemies can appear in the field of battle, raised from 15 to 50.

Look! Mittens!

Epic scale for an epic game.

What’s also nifty is that you can ride a few beasts, allowing you to cause havoc amongst hordes of enemies. Some may also allow you to cross previously unpassable areas and unlock secrets. The locations you’ll discover and explore will also be larger, emphasising the epic-scale of this installement of the GoW series.

Ouch. OUCH.

GoW III looks fantastic and it’s probably a good thing that the gameplay won’t be departing very far from its predecessors. Kratos is will be out on rampage on March 16 in the US, March 19 in Europe, March 25 in Japan, and sometime in March in Australia.

Base-jumping: it's not for wimps.

God War is pretty much the best stress toy on the PS3 tbh. So much gore, blood, destruction, grunt etc. That doesn’t make it a bad game at all lol! I’m definitely looking forward to it!

Looks like a solid action game for the PS3. I’ll probably pick it up sometime after it’s out.
