Dance in The Vampire Bund impressions

Put in the balance!

It's about getting more boing for your buck~

Vampires have paid off Japan’s debt and in return receive a haven for themselves connected to the mainland. This is the premise of Shaft’s adaptation of the manga series ‘Dance in The Vampire Bund”. I would have actually strongly considered blogging this series, but after watching a lacklustre episode 2, I’ve decided to only write impressions on it.

It's like Lady Gaga's spawn-child... BABY GAGA!

First impressions would easily make Dance one of the better and more interesting series to watch. I loved what Shaft achieved in Bakemonogatari in terms of animation, and the visual result present in Dance is no different. It’s a little artsy, but it works really well.

Oh behave~!

Dance also has a great soundtrack to boot. Music is really used to help set a suspenseful tone, and the generic sound effects heard in mainstream Japanese TV are wonderfully depicted in episode 1. Contrary to what many viewers believed, I thought episode 1 was an intriguing and smart way to start the series. Astraea’s Balance was a fun and cheesy parody of the media, TV and sit-in audiences.

That's right, ask the cat.

Suck on this, b!tch!

However, Shaft’s intelligence and originality that was present in episode 1 (and also in Bakemonogatari) was quickly removed in episode 2, where the series quickly showed signs of degenerating into another high school love triangle plot with monsters. Not to mention the unusual deviation Shaft took when comparing the anime to the manga, which obviously upset a few fanboys.

It's a vam-spider!

OP: Great tune. Just too much focus on the 2 main characters and for some reason, flowers. The princess should also keep her clothes on. Fanservice ain’t fanservice when it’s disgusting.

ED: Ewwww. Just ewwww and trashy to watch and listen. Skip if possible.

Final impression: ~7.5/10

I’ll keep watching Dance for the time being for the lovely animation and sound. I just don’t think the manga series deserved to get reduced to such cliche so early in the series. There are some pretty disturbing images in the OP and episode 2, so viewers beware!

I was actually expecting a kid on a bike and E.T. with a towel wrapped around his head, but this will do...

I love the captions under the pics, especially Baby Gaga. It works so well! However this impression is too short and brief tbh. I agree completely with the disgusting fanservice in ep 2. That was just wrong beyond belief, not to mention loli….

Yeah, the fan service in episode 2 I could have done without.
