“Day into night, sugar into salt, the living into the dead, and finally, the dark blue turns into gold”

Olé!

Wow. Just wow. For those who haven’t watched the first season, grab a copy asap, because you won’t understand how surprising this opener was. Huge *spoiler alert* from now onwards. Season 2 appeared to be very different from its predecessor and it shows much promise.

Licky

Alois is very different to Ciel. VERY. Like Ciel, he’s had a traumatic past that has essentially given him his adult mindset. However, the way the two characters go about in their lives and how they approach those around them couldn’t be more different. I think Ciel ended up enjoying his staff’s company and throughout the last season. To put it simply, Alois treats his staff like crap, and this is VERY evident early on.

Faustus in action

What’s also interesting is the master-butler relationship here. Ciel was very much aware of his fate and he did make his sentiment felt to Sebastien. Alois is also dependent on his butler Faustus, but their relationship almost borders on Yaoi. In fact, the Yaoi subtext this season has been ramped up with these 2 characters, so for those unacquainted, grin and bear the man x man moments.

Sebastien Michaelis - he's back.

I was totally surprised at Ciel and Sebastien’s return. I thought that Ciel’s fate was pretty damn clear at the end of the first season. I apparantly thought wrong. Not that I’m complaining. It’s a welcome sight to see these familiar characters. Looking at the preview, we’ll also be seeing the hilarious staff again.

OP: Not bad actually. They really emphasise the butler-master relationship. I don’t really like the tune, but I guess it’s fitting.

ED: Pretty dull.

HOLY CRAP CLOSE UP

    Wow times 2…

But I think that if this season focuses on Seb & Ciel then it will probably be about the 3 years prior to the first season. It would make sense but if that were true then I would be sad. I would like to hope that this new season will be about what happened after. I do hope so but we’ll probably find out in the next episode.

    Can’t wait~!

After, it seems like… Since Seb used the ring to revive Ciel who seems to be wearing what he was wearing during the last ep of season 1.

Though I wonder… was episode 1 all a fluke and giant advertising scheme to make us all think “Oh no, this totally has nothing to do with Sebastian and Ciel”. o.o

Will Faustus and Alois show up again because heaven knows I can’t get enough of Faust and his tapdancing.

I agree with you Shin with the advertising gimmick. The producers of the anime series must be trolls. I thought about it and I guess it’s set after season 1….but Ciel acts as if nothing has happened between him and the other characters…

I’ve been keeping up with the series and it seems Alois and Faustus DO play a larger role than just advertising ploy. Ep 5 brings them back, apparently as Ciel is invited to a party at the Trancy estate.

You have a REALLY good point though, Baka. It’s as if the Phantomhive household didn’t go through the last episode. It does kinda make me wonder why they weren’t going “Wait a sec, WHY IS BOCCHAN ALIVE?!”. Ah well.. mebbe it’ll be answered in a future episode?
